1st Track Day?
So, you've made the decision to finally make the trip to a racetrack to see what the excitement is about. Let's get you and your automobile ready for the track.
Instruction sessions are available for $100 per 20 minute session. If it is your first time on track, you will be required to pay for an instruction session.
- Your brakes are the single most crucial item on your checklist. No matter how fresh or old your automobile is, the brake fluid from the factory occasionally may not be sufficient for track driving. It is not required to switch to high-temperature brake fluid, although it is advised. A high-performance braking fluid has a boiling point of about 600 degrees, not a distinct DOT brake fluid. Motul brake fluid is available at Nippon Power
- To provide adequate grip, your tires should have appropriate tread, and the tire pressure should be adjusted for track driving. To assist you keep track of your tire pressures throughout the day, you should have a tire pressure gauge.
- To prevent a loose wheel from falling off when traveling at high speeds, your wheels must be torqued to the right level. When the wheels are not heated, only twist them. It is sufficient to do this once in the morning before starting your first session.
- Your seat belts must be working for both the driver and passenger as you will have an instructor riding along with you during at least your first day to help you learn car control and the proper rules of track driving.
- You must wear an auto helmet that is SA Snell 2020 certified, which is available at Nippon Power
- It is recommended that you bring plenty of gasoline with you to the track so that it will last you all or most of the day.
- Check and top off your fluid levels as needed.
- Before hitting the circuit, all loose objects in the car should be taken out.
- You are not required to wear any particular attire, but you should feel comfortable when driving. Wearing light shoes, such as sneakers or driving shoes if you have them.
- It is important to drink enough of water throughout the day. Be sure to consume a lot of water or sports drinks.
- The checkered flag will be displayed during your session to indicate the conclusion of your session. The remaining lap should be used as a cool-down lap. Before leaving the racetrack, it’s crucial to give your brakes time to cool down since they can reach dangerously high temperatures, which can ignite little fragments of tire rubber you may have picked up on the track. Do not apply the parking brake or maintain your foot on the brake pedal when you come to a halt in your parking space. Before applying your parking brake, you must allow the brakes to cool.
Rules
This track day’s purpose is to encourage safe driving and provide you with a location to experience your street car’s full capability.
The most important concern during this event is safety. Anyone who drives recklessly will be instantly removed from the event. You must drive responsibly and within your limitations.
- Racing is not permitted. There are no medals or prizes for the fastest lap.
- Passing is allowed only in the designated zones. Passing zones can be found here.
- A slower-moving vehicle cannot be passed until the driver makes the “passing signal”. The left arm should be extended out the driver’s window and pointed in the direction of the passing side to signify a passing.
- To safely execute the pass, the slower car should remain on-line and “lift” if required. NO DRAG RACING!
- Watch your mirrors. A car is faster than you if the driver is visible in your rearview mirror. As you approach the next passing zone, signal the driver to pass.
- Run the first lap of every session at a slower pace to get your tires, car, and most importantly, your brain warmed up. Pay attention to where the corner employees are located.
- When exiting the track, the driver should extend his left arm straight out the window.
- When the session is completed, finish the remaining lap more slowly to give your brakes time to cool before you reach the pit lane.
